My media center machine is my guinea pig. It’s relatively old with it’s nForce 440 based motherboard, Athlon 64 3200+ (Socket 989), and 1 whopping gig of memory. It’s also got a Hauppauge MCE500 dual analog tuner and an ATI 4550 with HDMI out to my Samsumg A550 40″ LCD.
I couldn’t be happier with how Windows 7 performs with minimal hardware. This machine is easily 3.5 years old, and it wasn’t exactly top of the line when I bought it. H.264 at 1080P plays flawlessly (thanks to AVIVO), and the Media Center interface is incredibly responsive, even right after bootup (which, I’m sad to say, wasn’t the case with Vista).
Anyway, last night I reinstalled Windows 7 Beta x64. Every single driver installed out of the box…except this damn WMP54G, which also didn’t work on Vista 64. So, here’s how to make it work.
This card is based on a card by RALink…that, or they use the same chip. Either way, they offer a driver that works.
http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Windows.html
I downloaded the RT2500 installer. Then I installed it. *EDIT* Here’s the updated link location, thanks to “Heroin” the commenter (had to clarify): http://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=410099446353e5b327a2d97a64c
So, install then, then head over to Device Manager. You should see this:

Double click that device and go to Update Driver.

Select Browse my computer for driver software
At the bottom, select “Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer”
In the next window, scroll down to Network Adapters and double click. Then click “Have Disk”
In the box that pops up, navigate to/enter this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\RALINK\RT6x Wireless LAN Card\Driver
Hit OK then scroll down to “Ralink Technology Corp” in the box on the left side. On the right side, select “802.11b/g Wireless Adapter.”

Click YES on the warning.

Success! Now try to connect to your wireless network.

At first none of these things worked, what I had to do was SKIP the click “have disk” step and select Ralink > 802.11g Wireless PCI Adaptor, and it finally worked! Thanks for the help everyone
If you are getting a code 10 when trying to install the wireless drivers do the following.
1. Remove the wireless card from the PC.
2. Remove all network adapter drivers.
3. Install the device drivers as above.
4. Update the device drivers as above.
It worked for me on my PC, hopefully it will work for you too.
I keep getting the code 10. I removed the card, and in the Device Manager, I clicked uninstall on my lynksis wireless adapter. However, everytime I plug the device back in, it comes up already identified as a lynksis product. I follow the steps above and still get a code 10! Any help would be appreciated.
hi man, do i need to put back in the card after instaling the driver or before ( after desinstaling them ) because i been trying to fix this code 10 eror for like a week without result :(
I just LUV UUUUUUUUU
tnx alooooooooooooot
peace out !!
Found it !
After 2 days reading and trying, I finally found the trick.
When installing the driver you must choose the Ralink wireless pci card (AS DESCRIBED ABOVE) but when it comes to the I HAVE A DISK option you must search for the conceptronics 54 G WIRELESS CARD drivers. Windows will automatically install the conceptonic driver.
PD: I tried to install directly the conceptronics drivers but didnt worked at all.
After 2 days worked for me!

Thanks guys!
Just installed Win7 x64 and was already thinking about buying a new adapter! Everything works fine. I didn’t need to remove (physically) the adapter though. I just switched it off and then chose the generic driver you mentioned. I skipped the “have disk” step of course. This is vital.
Hi all,
This page is awesome, I got the V4 card to work using PCI/mPCI/CB (RT256x/RT266x) drivers, I had no luck with RT2500 (note tho, RT2500 Vista:3.2.0.0 98/ME/2K/XP:3.2.0.10) notice win7 isn’t listed, Where as RT256 (2K/XP:1.3.5.0 Vista:3.1.7.0 Win7:4.0.3.0). For those who are having issues, maybe thats it.
I have a problem even tho the card is install (no error 10) I can only see one network on the card and it’s not mine, but my neighbors. No matter what I tried, changing channels, etc. Still only one network (SSID) showing up. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thanks everybody for the great feedback and updated links. As I mentioned in the post, here’s the latest link to the drivers: http://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=410099446353e5b327a2d97a64c
Thanks to Heroin for the new url.
Hi, i keep getting code 10 :S
WMP54G 4.1 here.
I have win 7 64 bit
I managed to get the driver to successfully update (using a variety of drivers here) but now I can’t get any network connections. I feel like I climbed a mountain and didnt realize I there’s another day’s climb to go. Any ideas?
To ckarify my situation…
I keep getting:
No connections available. And this occurs with a variety of drivers installed.
I’ve tried going to network adapters and selecting enable (no success). But im not sure what I can do so my card can receive wireless network signals.
just to confirm what everyone else is saying – got a code 10 on following original instructions above, so updated driver to conceptronics one and skipped have disk – worked perfectly. hurrah!
OK, I started out OK, and tried a lot of the options, but I kept getting the code 10 error. So I removed the card and uninstalled the RaLink installer. It asked me to make sure the card was in, so I put the card in and then uninstalled, and tried to start over. However, now windows doesn’t seem to be recognizing the card at all. This may be a little far afield, but I am basically stuck on what to try. Can I look through the setup and see that it is there or something?
I have the WMP54G 4.1 card running under Windows 7 64 bit pro using these instructions –
http://icrontic.com/forum/showpost.php?p=679946&postcount=1
I performed an uninstall of the card and then did a ‘scan for hardware changes’ prior to following the directions at the above link. This worked for me. Good luck!
Worked perfectly first try. Interestingly when I did a windows update it offered me a driver update for the card. I declined of course,
thanx everyone! I got my card working, however transfer speeds are crazy slow!
full signal strength, connected at 54mb/s
transfer speeds are around 750kb/s!!
xp was closer to 2.5mb/s
any suggestions?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!
I have been trying everything. I keep getting a code 10 no matter what I do. I finally tried Arthur’s solution and installed the conceptronic driver. IT WORKED! It worked immediately, and so far I have had no problems whatsoever. Thanks Arthur!
Thank you so much! I used Arthur’s mod on the original instructions and it worked right out of the gate! Many Thanks!
Thanks alot man you really saved me hours of searching. My computer came with a 32bit OS and was capable of running a 64bit system, so I installed Windows Ultimate 64 bit. It didn’t recognize the WMP54G adapter card. I went to linksys and downloaded the setup and latest drivers but to no avail. No with your help/instructions I am able to connect to my wireless network, again thank you! -E.W. Smith
WMP54G V4.1 WORKING WITH RT6 DRIVER ( MOST RECENT DRIVER POSIBLE ) CHOOSE CONCEPTRONIC 54G PCI !!!
Excellent instructions! Can’t thank you enough!
Hey guys, I am stuggling with the “Code 10″ error! I’ve tried disconnecting, reconnecting and not clicking “Have disk. I’ve tried different drivers and many other things but I still cannot get the adapter to start. Thanks in advance for your help! :)
THANKS!!!!!!!
I did everything above and I can not get it to work. I have a custom built pc running win 7 x64. I tried both versions 2500 and 256 for my wmp54g v4.0 wireless card i cant get it to find any networks. the RT utility is running on my taskbar but has no networks in it..any help?

thanks a lot everyone

Thanks a lot !!! |m||m|
I read all the post in this page:
I cam across this:
If you’re looking to fix the Linksys wmp54g Windows 7 driver issue, you must download the Windows Vista 32/64-bit driver for the Ralink RT256x & RT266x Series WLAN chipsets, which I have attached at the end of this post.
The WMP54G 4.1 will not inherently recognize these drivers as compatible, so you must force the card to install the Ralink RT61 WLAN Card V2 drivers. Please see the attached image to see the driver installation procedure.
I also had code 10 issue: none of the above worked for me.
WIN 7 64 PRO
WMP54G V4.1
my fix was DLing RT256x, installing the driver only when the install window gives a choose.
I couldnt choose “have disk” because I couldnt find a folder in c:/ so I browsed through list above “have disk” then chose RAlink and installed “Ralink RT61 WLAN Card V2 drivers” but in my pc it said wireless lan instead of WLAN [same thing].
hope it helps
I did my fix yesterday look at my previous post. And today when I checked my windows updates their was an optional update for linksys wireless G. I did it and when I checked device manager it shows a linksys wireless card now =)
I checked the driver details and this is all the info i have. Driver/wmp54gV41x64.sys
provider: Ralink tech
file version: 2.00.03.000 built by WinDDK
So my suggestion for all your code 10 is hook up your ethernet cable and do a windows update.
Cheers
I’ve been trying to get this wireless pci card to work for a few hours now. I thought for sure this was just another forum with directions that wouldn’t work for me but I tried it anyway just in case and to my surprise it worked! I also skipped the “have disk” part and the drivers installed and my computer recognized the device like magic! BIG Thanks!
Thank you so much for this help tutorial. My hours of searching for a solution to this problem have come to an end. :)

This worked perfectly for me after constant code 10 errors. Thank you.
worked for me when i used the RT26x driver. Had to trial error which one from the list did not produce code 10 error. in the end it was this one the CONCEPTRONIC 54G-PCI
I couldn’t get past the code 10 issue until I brought down the Ralink drivers as described on this post:
http://icrontic.com/forum/showpost.php?p=679946&postcount=1
It worked instantly, and without having to install anything from Ralink. Just download the zip file, drag the top-level file out of it onto your desktop, and point to it with the “Have Disk” function. The instructions, in the form of a page of screenshots and arrows, work perfectly.
Good luck!
+1 on the Conceptronic driver for WMP54g on Win 7 64. When you choose Have Disk look for this adapter:
Manufacturer: 2L (Conceptronic)
Network Adapter: Conceptronic 54g Wireless PCI Card (Ralink Technology, Inc.)
Much thanks to everyone!
worked great
Thx BJ!
Worked fine for Windows 7(x64) and v4.1 WMP54G PCI-card.
I never comment, but I figured I’d break that trend to thank you for the assistance. I’ve finally got my card up and running on a fresh install of Windows 7. Thank you!
